Polishing materials
Polishing materials – usage advice.
A collection of tips for the smart approach to perfect polishing.
Introduction
Polishing is the very last step in the sanding process for finishing a workpiece. It’s not a clean job. The polishing pastes are greasy and as the polishing wheels spin, the user and everything around them can end up greasy too. So, ideally you want to keep polishing work to a
minimum. And that means it’s important to get your sanded finish as good as possible before moving to the
polishing
step.
Cibo’s range of technical sanding products can help you prepare the workpiece so that you can achieve a
top-class
finish more quickly and easily.

Tips & tricks
Patience is a virtue
Patience
is absolutely vital when polishing!
Look very critically at the results of your sanding.
Keep
repeating
the sanding stage until you are certain that every scratch has been completely eliminated.
Removing deep sanding lines
Caution!
Increasing the pressure can never compensate if your sanding marks are too deep.
Increasing the pressure can never compensate if your sanding marks are too deep.
And that means careful
preliminary
work is essential. Don’t apply too much pressure.
Excessive pressure can also result in unwanted
heat production
and
overheating
of the polish you are using.
The best way to remove these sanding lines is using a
mounted point
made of reinforced cotton.
Speed
It is very important to pick the right speed for polishing.
The
higher
the
speed
, the harder the contact and the greater the
heat production.
Cibo recommends the following guideline speeds:
Stainless steel: 30 - 45 m/s
Aluminium
& non-ferrous metals:
45 - 60 m/s
Chrome: 20 - 35 m/s
Did you know...
