General information

3D semi-flexible abrasives.

Uniform abrasives are a new generation of abrasive products offering improved performance and efficiency. They have a uniform structure which allows consistent stock removal, and a long lifespan. This makes them a superb choice for a range of grinding and finishing tasks on stainless steel.

Convolute or unitized?

There are two types of unified abrasive: convolute and unitized. Convolute abrasives are made by wrapping non-woven fabric around a core, and offer great flexibility and durability. Unitised abrasives are constructed from layers of non-woven material, and have a uniform structure that guarantees consistent cutting performance. This makes them perfect for precision tasks. Both types of unified abrasive offer better performance compared to traditional abrasives.

Convolute abrasives

Convolute abrasives are a type of 3D abrasive with a number of advantages for a wide range of applications. In particular, they are the ideal choice for tasks where you need a softer, flexible tool – for example, for surface blending and finishing. They achieve a much finer finish with less stock removal than their counterparts, the unitised abrasives. Another benefit of convolute abrasives is that you are less likely to cause deep scratches or pits in delicate surfaces.

In summary: convolute abrasives are a versatile, efficient abrasive tool and can be used for a range of applications where precision and a high-quality finish are required.

The convolute wheels can only be used in one direction: always follow the instructions on the disc label.

Unitized abrasives

Unitised abrasives have a uniform structure and offer consistent cutting performance, making them perfectly suited to precision tasks. They are appropriate for more aggressive use cases, such as removal of light weld seams, rust, paint and other coatings, and polishing and deburring metal surfaces.

Unitised abrasives have a longer lifespan than their traditional counterparts, making them more cost effective. Furthermore, as they are easier to control and produce less dust, they are a safer and more environmentally friendly choice.

Characteristics

check
Uniform and consistent density for a high-quality finish.
check
Flexible: adapt to the shape of the workpiece.
check
Long lifespan.
check
Iron-free = safe for stainless steel.
check
Residue-free formula leaves no smears.
check
Cool working avoids burn marks.
check
Open web structure does not get clogged with grinding dust.
check
Little dust generation.

Applications

check
Removal of weld discolouration: as well as light discolouration, unitised abrasives can easily remove deeper burn marks on the metal caused by heat production during welding.
check
Breaking sharp edges, deburring and rounding off corners.
check
Removal of TIG weld seams.
check
Correction of grinding defects and scratch removal: scratches on the workpiece caused by sharp objects or grinding defects due to an unsuited or overly rough abrasive can be removed with unitised material without disturbing the geometry of the workpiece.
check
Improving surface roughness: the pharmaceutical and food industries often have stringent requirements for the surface roughness of products. With a unitised grinding tool, the Ra value of the surface can be fine-tuned to perfection.
check
Removal of scoring: when workpieces have been milled, the cutter often leaves tracks behind. Unitised material can be used to finish these areas.
check
Removal of paint and coatings.
check
Removal of rust.
check
Pre-polishing: polishing typically requires careful preparation. Preliminary sanding with unitised material is an ideal final step before beginning on the glossy polish, and can save you a lot of time and work.
