Choosing a weld

The quality of a finish is determined to a large extent by the right choice of weld.

At Cibo, we offer no less than six different welds. Cibo manufactures its welds automatically based on the parameters of the abrasive, the choice of grain and the use case. On request, we’ll be happy to manufacture something tailored to your particular requirements, as explained below.

Lasverbindingen-Overlap-ST

Overlap-ST

This is the standard weld for all abrasive belts on paper backing.

Cibo guarantees this weld with no extra thickness, which gives a perfect finish even with very fine grit.
Lasverbindingen-BB-ZZ

BB-ZZ

Sometimes called a finger joint or comb joint.
The two ends of the weld are interlocked in a zigzag pattern and reinforced along the back with Kevlar tape.

This type of weld is typically used for very fragile applications, such as grinding thin glass.
Lasverbindingen-overlap-EX

Overlap-EX

Just like the Overlap ST weld, but with the top side ground off completely.
Lasverbindingen-BB-EX

BB-EX

Just like the BB weld, but with the top side ground off. The top side is ground off 5 mm wider than the Kevlar tape below it. This weld is sometimes practical for working on very hard materials with an especially hard abrasive contact.
Lasverbindingen-BB

BB

Cibo prefers this type of weld for all abrasive belts on cloth or polyester backing. The Kevlar tape is available in several variants and thicknesses and is matched to the selected abrasive grain, backing type and the angle of the weld seam.

This weld guarantees a perfect sanding result and allows the abrasive belt to be used in both directions without incurring risks.
Lasverbindingen-BB-SO

BB-SO

BB weld with the Kevlar tape applied along the top side, rather than the underneath. In addition, a strip of abrasive grain the width of the Kevlar tape is ground off completely along the top side.
